The State Income Tax Audit Manager will be responsible for managing state and local income and franchise tax audits, reviewing separate, combined, and unitary US state and local income and franchise tax returns, and assist in state and local tax due diligence efforts for Trane Technologies merger and acquisition activity. Additionally, the position will assist with state and local income tax research and planning projects. The State Income Tax Audit Manager will also interact with other areas of the tax department including State Indirect Tax & Federal Income Tax Audit. The position will report to Leader, State & Local Tax.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Manage state and local income and franchise tax audits including responding to IDR’s, tracking Statute of Limitation expirations, working directly with tax jurisdiction auditors and the state income tax compliance team, and communicating progress with state tax leaders.

· Assure tax audit results and work papers are adequately documented and communicated to state income tax compliance team for future state tax returns.

· Assist with assessment of risk to ensure appropriate accounting of uncertain tax positions under ASC740

· Review of state income/franchise tax returns (separate, combined & unitary).

· Manage on-going state notice resolution and other state controversy matters.

· Assist with state and local tax due diligence and modeling for merger and acquisition activity.

· Responsible for research and analysis of various state & local tax issues and projects.

· Advise state tax leadership on new legislation and interpretations of existing regulations.

· Implement process improvements for state and local income tax audit tracking working with internal tax technology resources to ensure alignment with overall finance modernization objectives.

· Manage one external tax consultant.

Professional Requirements:

· BS Degree in Accounting or Finance; MS in taxation preferred and/or CPA a plus.

· 8+ years’ state and local tax compliance, controversy and/or planning work experience in either a large US multinational and/or CPA firm supporting multi-state operations.

· Superior work ethic with high level of accountability

· Ability to interact independently and effectively with peers and management.

· Possess excellent analytical and communication skills, including the ability to simplify and communicate complex business information.

· Ability to influence internal stakeholders, co-sourcing firms/advisors, and governmental auditors.

· Strong technical knowledge of state and local income tax rules and regulations, ASC 740 (FAS109) and related pronouncements (FIN 48).

· Proficient in using data analytic tools and software to model implications of tax scenarios

· Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines simultaneously.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Experience with Corptax and TaxStream.

Base Compensation Range is $114,400-144,000, total compensation will include an incentive/bonus plan. Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
