As a Designer 3 at Trane Technologies, you will be a key member of a high performing team of product development engineers and designers for the Commercial Unitary Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) Products.

In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and designing the equipment and systems that meet our customers’ requirements, including managing the documentation. You will contribute to developing concepts for new & improved commercial HVAC products and solve complex technical problems leading to production of sustainable new products. This will require an individual to be well-versed in CAD design and have the ability to work cross-functionally with global teams.

Where is the work:

This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite a week) and will be based out of our Clarksville, TN office location.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work with Engineering to create parts, assemblies, and layouts in Creo Parametric.

  • Produce and develop designs and documentation utilizing computer design and product life cycle management systems. Create necessary supporting documentation utilizing a multitude of systems and applications.

  • Working knowledge and experience in assigned areas; change control, bill of material, product definition & selection, machine design, castings, fabrication, sheet metal, GD&T and tolerance analysis, electrical, electronics, heat transfer, piping and welding.

  • Ability to recognize and recommend possible solutions for potential design or product configuration problems. Knows the degree of care and accuracy required of assignments and detects or corrects own errors as well as errors of others.

  • Translate verbal and/or written instructions into drawings of HVAC products

  • In-depth knowledge and familiarity of all design and drafting standard practices, methods and processes.

  • Ability to make sketches, 2D and 3D engineering drawings and common computations. Create assemblies and sheet metal parts utilizing a 3D CAD modeling software.

  • Perform various forms of technical support, including answering questions from other departments relative to drawings or design data.

  • Adhere to all company safety and security policies and procedures.

  • Work with minor independent judgment under close direction of senior staff.

  • Manage project schedules and teams for assigned projects.

  • Able to direct tasks or efforts for self and potentially others on projects with the responsibility for completion of their own assignments.

  • Willingness to work overtime as required to support project deliverables/schedule.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to two weeks at a time. Expected travel time 10%.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical or electronic design from an accredited technical school and a minimum of at least 3-5 years of work experience with computer-aided design OR equivalent professional experience is required.

  • Broad knowledge of designing equipment, drafting and computer aided design; or broad knowledge in product definition, product configuration, and bills of materials creation and management.

  • Advanced use of computer aided design and bill of materials, change control, and product configuration systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and computer-generated reports, markups and hand sketches

  • Experience with Creo Parametric, 3D solid modeling software and Windchill PLM software is a plus, but experience with any 3D CAD programs such as Solid Works is acceptable

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, analytical and problem solving ability

  • Team player and detail-oriented

  • Adaptable to changing demands, priorities and objectives

  • Ability to work from oral or written engineering instructions

  • Customer driven and quality minded in performing all assigned duties

  • Ability to handle multiple varied tasks simultaneously

  • Capable of Leading Medium Design Projects and Coaching Small Projects

  • Develop or Implement Design Strategies/Objectives, Revise or Maintain Standard Work, Best Practices & System Documentation

Base salary for this position is $65,000-95,000.
